Animal health and welfare

One of the major duties of the named veterinary surgeon is to advise on animal health and welfare. We can advise on routine housing and husbandry, implement protocols for investigation of disease outbreaks, and devise strategies for elimination or treatment of diseases including recommendations in relation to biosecurity. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons publishes a code of Practice for Named Veterinary Surgeons. This Code requires that the NVS establishes a programme of veterinary care and health monitoring and is actively involved in safeguarding the welfare of the protected animals at the establishment.
